Class 8 Poorvi Chapter 2: Wisdom Paves the Way – Summary & Explanation

In CBSE Class 8 English Poorvi Book, Unit 1 (Wit and Wisdom), “Wisdom Paves the Way” is an interesting play that shows the power of observation, reasoning, and intelligence.

The play revolves around four intelligent young men — Ram Datt, Shiv Datt, Har Datt, and Dev Datt — who are walking towards the city of Ujjain in search of employment. While on the dusty road, they notice camel footprints. Using sharp observation and logical reasoning, each of them deduces important details about the missing camel (such as its physical condition, what it was carrying, and its behaviour) without actually seeing the animal.

Soon, a distressed merchant arrives searching for his lost camel. When the four men accurately describe the camel, the merchant becomes suspicious and accuses them of theft. He drags them to the court of the King of Ujjain. In the royal court, the four young men calmly explain step-by-step how they reached their conclusions using keen observation and logic.

Impressed by their wisdom, clear thinking, and unity, the King realises their true potential and appoints them as his advisers in the royal court.

This play beautifully teaches important lessons about the value of wisdom, sharp observation, logical reasoning, teamwork, and how intelligence can turn difficult situations into opportunities.
